Job summary

Pier House near JFK Airport is seeking a part-time Hotel Engineer to perform HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance to ensure guest comfort. You will handle service calls, complete work orders, and maintain equipment and facilities to a high standard.

Responsibilities include responding quickly to calls, maintaining pools and carpets, and ensuring safety. Strong communication and physical ability to lift 10–25 pounds are required, with vocational training or certification

Qualifications

• Previous hotel engineering experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building construction.
• Understand and operate electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems.
• Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdown.

• Respond to service calls within half an hour of receipt.
• Accurately and efficiently complete all assigned work orders daily; inform supervisor of incomplete orders.
• Maintain pools, filters and pumps daily.
• Adjust televisions and program boxes.
• Change light bulbs and ballasts as reported.
• Replace air filters on AC units regularly.
• Repair vacuums and return to service within two days.
• Clean grounds, garages and parking lots.
• Carpet shampooing, extraction and deep cleaning on schedule.
• Maintain carpets in guest rooms, corridors, meeting spaces, and public areas.

What you will be doing

• Respond to all service calls within half hour from time call is received.
• Accurately and efficiently complete all assigned work orders on a daily basis. Inform supervisor of any incomplete orders for rescheduling.
• Efficiently maintain pools, filters and pumps on a daily basis.
• Efficiently adjust televisions and program boxes.
• Change light bulbs and ballasts as soon as reported or noticed.
• Efficiently replace air filters on AC units on a regular basis.
• Accurately and efficiently repair vacuum cleaners, returning them to service within two (2) days.
• Clean up grounds, garages and parking lots.
• Perform scheduled carpet shampooing, extraction, and deep cleaning.
• Maintain carpets in guestrooms, corridors, meeting spaces, and public areas.
• Identify and treat stains, odors, and heavily soiled areas.
• Maintain carpet cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Establish and follow a preventative carpet maintenance schedule.
• Report carpet damage or areas requiring replacement.
• $18.00-$20.00

Requirements

What we are looking for

• Previous hotel engineering experience required, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen and general building construction
• Vocational training, associate's degree, certification and/or apprenticeship in one or more area; state certification or licensure where required
• Understand and efficiently maintain and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems.
• Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdown.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• High work ethic and self-initiative
• Physical Requirements (In-Office Role)
• Ability to work in a standard office environment.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. (6-8 hours a day)
• Occasional standing and walking throughout the workday.
• Frequent fine motor skills, use of hands and fingers for keyboarding/typing, utilizing a mouse or trackpad, writing, and operating office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, reach, or carry items.
• Ability to lift and/or move 10–25 pounds as needed (e.g., files, office supplies).
• Visual ability to read from a computer screen and printed materials including close visual focus for extended periods and color differentiation (for certain roles).
