Job summary

YMCA South Australia is seeking a Facilities Manager to oversee maintenance, improvements, and cleanliness of YMCA facilities in a hands-on capacity. The role requires coordinating with outside contractors, managing staff, and ensuring reliable operation of mechanical systems, including pools.

The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience, CPR/First Aid certification, and a willingness to become a Certified Pool Operator.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of pools preferred, training available.
• Certified Pool Operator or willingness to become certified.
• CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Ability to lead across departments and handle ambiguity.
• Collaborative member of the management team.
• Proficient with standard business software.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and supports the maintenance and custodial staff.
• Hands-on role: routine maintenance, cleaning, and manual labor.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Interact with members, participants and staff with strong customer service.
• On-call availability may include weekends, nights, or early mornings for repairs.
• Plan and implement facility improvements and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Oversee contractors and review bids for facility projects.
• Ensure operation of mechanical systems, including pools.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; maintain licenses and permits.
• Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training staff; develop work schedules.
• Coordinate with accounting on financial transactions and maintain inventory.
