Job summary

YMCA of Greater Springfield is seeking a Facilities Manager to oversee maintenance, improvements and cleanliness across YMCA facilities. You will supervise staff, perform hands-on maintenance, and manage multiple projects while ensuring safe operation of all mechanical systems, including pools.

The role requires coordinating with outside contractors, meeting regulatory requirements, and leading a team to deliver high-quality facilities and customer service to members and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of pools; training available.
• Certified Pool Operator, or willingness to become certified.
• CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Ability to manage across departments and lead through ambiguity.
• Collaborative and supportive member of the management team.
• Proficient with standard business software.
• Ability to relate to diverse community groups.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper operation of all mechanical systems including pools.
• Coordinate with local agencies to ensure compliance; maintain licenses.
• Assist in recruiting, hiring and training staff.
• Develop work schedules and direct staff.
• Review team performance.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance equipment.
• Update facility plans and annual capital projects aligned with strategic plan.
• Collaborate with childcare, healthy living, membership and staff.
• Ensure service levels and engagement to foster loyalty.
• Ensure procedures implemented and updated; communicate changes clearly.
• Coordinate with accounting on financial transactions.
• Ensure safety and maintenance of facilities; Emergency Action Plan current.
• Communicate facility updates via email and other channels.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the maintenance, improvements, and cleanliness of YMCA facilities. Manages and performs general repairs, maintenance, and selected improvements to buildings, pools, camps, and equipment that are within areas of expertise. Will coordinate with outside companies as needed. Ensures the proper operation of all mechanical systems including pool systems.

THIS POSITION

• Supervises and supports the maintenance and custodial staff.
• Requires to be hands-on and perform routine maintenance, cleaning and other manual labor.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time.
• Has regular day-to-day contact with members, participants and staff and must enjoy customer service.
• Must be available on an on-call basis which may include weekends, nights, or early morning for repairs or issues that arise after scheduled work hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for overall planning and implementation of facility improvements, maintenance, and cleaning.
• Plan and implement preventative maintenance schedules at all YMCA facilities.
• Completes repair work and projects in a timely manner requiring balancing day-to-day and long-term needs.
• Oversee all contractors that work in the facilities and grounds. May request and review bids and recommend selection of contractors.
• Ensures the proper operation of all mechanical systems, which include the pools.
• Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building department, etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds. Maintain current building licenses and permits.
• Assists in the recruiting, hiring, and training for the staff.
• Develop work schedules and directs assigned staff.
• Reviews and evaluates team’s performance.
• Establish and maintain an accurate inventory of all YMCA maintenance equipment.
• Updates facility plans periodically. May develop annual plan of capital projects, consistent with the YMCA’s strategic plan and community needs.
• Works collaboratively with childcare, healthy living, membership and all other staff in support of our cause.
• Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters loyalty among those we serve.
• Ensures proper implementation of procedures. Reviews and updates procedures and communicates changes to staff in a clear, concise way.
• Coordinates with the accounting office as necessary on financial transactions.
• Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment. Ensure the Emergency Action Plan is current.
• Responsible for internally communicating facility updates through email and other mediums.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of pools, preferred but we will train
• Certified Pool Operator, or will take the exam to become certified
• CPR/First Aid certifications
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Ability to manage and lead through ambiguity and work across departments toward a common goal.
• Serve as a collaborative and supportive member of the management team.
• Personal computer skills and experience with standard business software is required.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
