Job summary

The City of Portales is seeking a Head Custodian in the Parks Department to lead custodial staff, oversee cleaning, and perform light maintenance on City facilities.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, a New Mexico driver’s license, good physical condition, and ability to work with others. The position is full-time with a 40-hour work week and occasional after-hours work.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Experience with custodial equipment and cleaning methods is preferred.
• Must have NM driver’s license and good physical condition.
• Able to interact with others and work with minimal supervision.
• Ongoing safety training and seminars may be required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise the work of other custodians.
• Clean and perform light to heavy maintenance on City buildings.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning products and coordinate orders.
• Report equipment defects to supervisor immediately.
• Set up chairs and arrange furniture for meetings or events.
• Attend safety classes and other job-related training.
• Work additional hours including weekends/holidays as needed.
• Promote a positive image of the City and provide excellent customer service.
