Job Description

Position Purpose:

The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds. The incumbent will possess a basic knowledge of electrical systems and all hazards.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Assist skilled trades employees in performing operations and maintenance on plant equipment and buildings. Perform preventive maintenance functions, including lubrication of equipment. Disassemble and reassemble pumps.
2. Perform custodial and groundskeeping work, including cutting grass, snow removal, and trash pickup. Perform custodial work in buildings, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, washing windows, scrubbing walls, and vacuuming.
3. Perform manual labor as assigned.
4. Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including washing, tightening chains, replacing cables and bolts, checking tire pressure, and lubrication per manufacturer schedules.
5. Conduct regular checks of equipment condition, note deficiencies, and follow maintenance scheduling procedures for repairs or replacements.
6. Prepare surfaces for painting, apply paint and varnish to buildings and equipment, and perform sign lettering as assigned.
7. Recommend materials and supplies needed, advise management on applications, and maintain inventory.
8. Provide coverage for Bio-Solids Loader in staffing shortages.
9. Observe all safety regulations on the job.
10. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions.
11. Potential exposure to noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents, and vibration.
12. Work may involve slippery/uneven surfaces, machinery with moving parts, moving objects/vehicles, ladders/scaffolding, below ground, and exposure to water or liquids.
13. Maintain high safety, health, and environmental standards in all activities.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• At least one year of related trade experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to use materials, methods, tools, and equipment for building and grounds maintenance.
• Adherence to safety policies and regulations.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of safe operation of hand and power tools related to the job.
• Familiarity with safety regulations, confined space entry, and Lockout/Tagout procedures (training provided).
• Ability to operate and understand the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Operations: Pickup trucks, forklifts or other powered industrial trucks, mobile and truck cranes.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training

• Valid NYS driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License preferred; ability to meet risk management guidelines.
• Minimum of two years of on-the-job training.

Additional Information

Pay Rate: $20.65 to $27.60 per hour.
