The Department of Public Works is looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Facilities Engineer. This position performs work in the design, construction administration, and construction inspection of various architectural and engineering projects.
Hiring Range: $75,275-$88,067
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., plus additional hours as required.

Responsibilities:
- Perform architectural and engineering design, cost estimating, specification writing, contract administration, construction inspection, and supervision of public works projects, including building construction, maintenance, renovations/repairs, demolition, and other public works activities.
- Administer public works contracts of moderate difficulty.
- Prepare technical reports, studies, and permit or grant applications.
- Assist in construction supervision and inspect ongoing construction projects, performing field reviews to support design adjustments.
- Coordinate with Engineering Technicians in preparing plans, specifications, and inspections for special projects.
- Draft and administer professional services contracts, reviewing plans and specifications prepared by consultants from project scoping to completion.
- Review contractor material submittals, process payments, and handle change orders for public works contracts.
- Meet with the public, contractors, and other departments regarding public works projects, with guidance from the Facilities Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- 3-5 years of related engineering, architectural, or project management experience (highly desirable for Civil Engineer II).
- Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (AIA) in Wisconsin is highly desirable.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering and architectural principles, including plan and report preparation for public works.
- Proficiency in field engineering, surveying, construction inspection, and practices.
- Ability to manage and coordinate work of engineering staff and projects effectively.
- Proficient computer skills and software knowledge.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and establish effective relationships.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to focus on projects for extended periods.
- Reaching, climbing, and working in rough terrain and elevated environments.
