Job summary

VCU Facilities Operations is seeking an Electrician for Facilities Operations to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure while ensuring optimal system uptime. The role supports the university’s mission, serving faculty, staff and students with reliable electrical and mechanical services.

Applicant must have several years of experience in commercial/institutional electrical and mechanical maintenance, the ability to diagnose and repair diverse systems,

Qualifications

• Several years’ experience in commercial/institutional electrical and mechanical maintenance.
• Ability to diagnose, repair, service and install a wide variety of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers.
• Knowledge of appropriate building codes.
• Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes.
• Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment.
• Virginia Driver’s License required
• State of Virginia Journeyman Electrical License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment

Responsibilities

• Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of building infrastructure (fume hoods, exhaust systems, fire alarm systems, electrical distribution, lighting, motors, VFDs, etc.).
• Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of plumbing and mechanical systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on building infrastructure such as fume hoods, exhaust systems, motors, and electrical systems.
• Collaborate with others to resolve problems, share information, and improve customer service.
• Advise supervision by recommending maintenance tasks and priority attention.
• Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with specs and drawings.
• On-call during inclement weather and emergencies.
