Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an Electrician for Facilities Operations on-site at our Richmond campus. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure to ensure reliable operation and safety for students, faculty, and staff.

The successful candidate will diagnose system deficiencies, follow codes, and collaborate with a skilled team to minimize downtime while delivering high-quality service.

Qualifications

• Several years’ experience in commercial/institutional electrical and mechanical maintenance.
• Ability to diagnose, repair, service and install electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes.
• Virginia Driver’s License required.
• State of Virginia Journeyman Electrical License or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of building infrastructure (e.g., fume hoods, exhaust systems, fire alarm systems, electrical distribution systems, lighting, motors).
• Independently perform preventive maintenance on building infrastructure (e.g., motors, lighting, electrical/mechanical equipment).
• Work collaboratively across the department and with customers to resolve issues and maintain safety and comfort.
• Advise supervision on maintenance tasks and communicate work schedules and progress.
• Assist on-call and respond to emergencies as assigned.
