Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance of all campus buildings and grounds.
  • Develop preventive maintenance schedules to reduce costly repairs and disruptions.
  • Coordinate repairs, work orders, inspections, and facility projects.
  • Monitor building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and life safety.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and review quotes.
  • Maintain records of maintenance, warranties, and service agreements.
  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies.
  • Lead and supervise the custodial team; establish cleanliness standards and schedules.
  • Develop custodial schedules and manage supplies and inventory.
  • Monitor transportation operations; assign drivers and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain transportation records and coordinate vehicle maintenance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Facilities Director FLSA Status: Full-time Exempt

Reports to: Executive DirectorTerms of Employment: 12 months

Position Description: The Facilities Director is responsible for overseeing TJCA campus facilities, and providing leadership and direction to the maintenance, custodial, and transportation teams while ensuring that the school’s buildings, equipment, and transportation services are safe, clean, functional, and well maintained.

The Facilities Director will work closely with school leadership, staff, vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure the school’s operational needs are addressed efficiently and proactively. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who demonstrates strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through.

The Facilities Director will play a critical role in ensuring that our students and staff have safe, clean, well-maintained facilities and reliable transportation. We are seeking a dependable and proactive leader who takes pride in creating an environment where the TJCA community can thrive.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in facilities management, maintenance, operations, transportation, custodial services, or a related field.

  • Prior supervisory or management experience strongly preferred

  • Experience working in a school, educational, nonprofit, or similar organizational environment is preferred.

  • Strong organizational, time-management skills, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of google workspace, email, spreadsheets, and productivity apps is desired.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond effectively to changing needs.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Working knowledge of facility maintenance, building systems, custodial operations, and transportation is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with school leadership and staff.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

  • Ability to pass required background checks and meet applicable school and transportation requirements.

Facilities and Maintenance
  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of all school buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities.

  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules to reduce costly repairs and unexpected disruptions.

  • Coordinate repairs, work orders, inspections, and facility improvement projects.

  • Monitor building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, fire and life safety systems, and other critical infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors and ensure work is completed properly and on schedule.

  • Obtain and review quotes and assist leadership with evaluating facility-related purchases and projects.

  • Maintain accurate records of fire drills, maintenance activities, inspections, warranties, equipment, and service agreements.

  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies and operational issues.

Custodial Operations
  • Lead and supervise the school’s custodial team.

  • Establish clear expectations for cleanliness, sanitation, appearance, and routine building care.

  • Develop custodial schedules and ensure appropriate coverage for school events and activities.

  • Monitor custodial supplies and equipment and manage inventory.

  • Conduct regular inspections of classrooms, restrooms, common areas, athletic facilities, and other school spaces.

  • Ensure cleaning and sanitation practices meet applicable health and safety standards.

Transportation
  • Lead and oversee the school’s transportation team and daily transportation operations.

  • Coordinate driver assignments, schedules, and transportation coverage. Able to use real-time technology apps, text messaging, etc to assure clear communication with staff and parents.

  • Ensure transportation operations comply with applicable state and school requirements.

  • Maintain accurate transportation records, including driver documentation, required insurance, vehicle inspections, maintenance records, and required certifications.

  • Monitor the condition and maintenance of school vehicles and coordinate repairs as needed internally or through outside approved vendors.

  • Address transportation concerns and communicate effectively with families, staff, and school leadership. Develop and maintain emergency procedures for transportation-related incidents.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required combined with extensive trade experience, or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management , or business. The ideal candidate will possess a balance of education with years of supervisory experience in building operations, safety, and staff management.

Physical Requirements:The position requires the ability to walk and stand throughout school facilities and grounds, safely climb stairs, ladders, inspect equipment and facilities, and occasionally lift or move supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl to inspect tight spaces. Mush have ability to push and pull heavy furniture, bins or maintenance apparatus. Use hands and fingers to grasp tools, operate keyboards or mobile devices. Must hear instructions and alarms and must use vision to distinguish color, read blueprints, inspect safety hazards, and evaluate facility cleanliness. The Facilities Director must be able to respond to emergencies and work inside or outside or in varying environmental conditions when necessary.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. The Facilities Director should expect a schedule that aligns with school operations and may require occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours work for emergencies, athletic events, school activities, facility projects, or transportation needs.
