Job summary

Santa Barbara County Education Office is seeking an experienced custodian/maintenance worker to perform a variety of duties to keep district buildings clean, secure and operable.

Under supervision, you will maintain floors, fixtures, and building systems, respond to after-hours alarms, and assist with minor repairs and event setups.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and two years of custodial experience; valid California driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of custodial/maintenance experience preferred, preferably in a school setting.
• Knowledge of custodial methods, safety regulations, and proper tool use.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work independently.
• Strong communication and ability to follow directions.”

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, strip, wax and buff floors; vacuum, spot clean and shampoo carpets.
• Clean sinks, urinals, toilets, mirrors, and surfaces; restock supplies.
• Wash windows and dust surfaces; maintain fixtures; manage trash.
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry tasks as needed.
• Maintain lighting; replace bulbs; service heating systems.
• Ensure building security by checking doors and alarms; respond to alarms.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and minor vehicle repairs.
• Set up rooms for meetings and move materials between rooms.
• Follow directions and work with others to complete tasks.
