Job summary

Odyssey House is seeking a Custodian to maintain a clean, safe facility and support daily operations in our Operations department. The role covers cleaning, housekeeping, minor repairs, and adherence to safety codes, with scheduled supervision and on-call availability.

Responsibilities include inspecting the facility, removing snow, attending staff meetings, and assisting with emergency responses as needed. We offer a 35-hour work week, competitive benefits, and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a New York City building, preferably in a service provider residence.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Must have a valid NYC Fire Department Certificate of Fitness or obtain within 6 months of employment for operation of FAS/fire drills.
• Must be computer literate.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
• Position requires lifting and moving items of a moderate weight.
• Position requires on call availability.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular facility inspections to assess standards and identify areas of concern.
• Responsible for emergency and minor repairs to be completed in a timely fashion.
• Respond to consumer work orders in a timely fashion.
• Ensure bedroom/apartment maintenance, cleanliness and inspection prior to arrival of new consumers.
• Maintain ongoing housekeeping and cleanliness of all public areas.
• Attend monthly supervision with assigned supervisor.
• Clean floors, windows, fixtures, offices, stairs, restrooms and doors.
• Operate equipment such as buffers, vacuums, carpet machines, etc.
• Remove snow in winter from parking lots, driveways and sidewalks.
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Attend all required in-service training seminars.
• Other relevant duties as assigned.
