Job summary

City of Blue Springs is seeking a dependable Custodian to perform routine custodial and cleaning tasks across assigned areas and shifts. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 1 year of custodial experience preferred.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk frequently, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facilities per task schedule: vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, wash windows and mirrors, stock bathrooms, polish furniture, clean common areas, manage trash and recycling.
• Clean tables and countertops; empty, sanitize waste receptacles; dispose of recyclables and biohazards properly.
• Disinfect drinking fountains, restrooms, and locker rooms; replenish restroom supplies.
• Observe health and safety requirements; be familiar with MSDS from vendors.
• Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to ensure safety and prevent damage.
• Assist in set-up/take-down for programs and events (chairs, tables, AV equipment).
• Remove snow from sidewalks and spread de-icing agent.
• Operate/maintain floor scrubbers and other cleaning tools.
• Perform minor repairs to furniture, walls, sinks, toilets, and equipment; semi-skilled repairs.
• Notify managers for required building repairs beyond minor fixes.
• Secure and close buildings per protocols; requisition supplies as needed.
• Maintain positive interactions with staff and public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• The duties encompass physical, mental, visual, and cognitive requirements to perform essential elements.
