Job summary

City of Blue Springs is seeking a dedicated custodial worker to perform routine cleaning and maintenance on an evening shift, Tuesday through Saturday, 12pm–8:30pm. The role includes cleaning floors, restrooms, surfaces, and common areas, with some minor maintenance tasks as needed.

Responsibilities include ensuring health and safety standards, properly handling cleaning chemicals, and supporting event setup and teardown.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 1 year of past custodial experience is preferred.
• Ability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks on a daily basis.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facilities per task schedule: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, windows, bathrooms, and trash handling.
• Clean tables, countertops, and sanitize waste receptacles; properly dispose of recyclables and biohazards.
• Disinfect drinking fountains, restrooms, and locker rooms; restock supplies.
• Follow health and safety requirements and know MSDS information for cleaning products.
• Operate and maintain cleaning tools and equipment such as floor scrubbers and hand tools.
• Assist with setup and teardown for programs/events and move furniture or AV equipment as needed.
• Notify supervisors of repairs or system issues beyond routine maintenance.
• Secure and close buildings following established procedures.
• Order or requisition cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
• Maintain a positive, respectful working relationship with staff and the public.
