Job summary

City of Blue Springs is seeking a custodial worker to perform routine cleaning and maintenance in assigned facilities on a Tue-Sat shift (12:00 PM–8:30 PM). Primary duties include cleaning, minor repairs, and ensuring safe, clean environments for the public.

Applicants should have at least 1 year of custodial experience and be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors, and follow written and oral instructions. This position emphasizes reliability and teamwork with city staff and the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 1 year of general custodial experience preferred.
• Ability to perform cleaning and maintenance activities daily.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift 15–20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; climb ladders; work outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facilities per schedule: vacuum, mop, dust, clean glass, bathrooms, trash.
• Clean tables, counters, waste receptacles, and dispose of recyclables.
• Disinfect restrooms, replenish supplies.
• Follow health and safety MSDS and safety protocols.
• Use cleaners and power equipment safely to protect floors/fixtures.
• Set up and take down for programs and events.
• Snow removal from sidewalks with salt/deicer.
• Operate floor scrubbers and hand tools.
• Perform minor repairs and painting as needed.
• Notify managers of repairs beyond minor maintenance.
• Secure and close building per procedures.
• Requisition/purchase supplies as needed.
• Maintain positive interactions with staff and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
