Job summary

Grand Street Settlement is seeking a Custodian for The Rose Center at 80 Pitt St., NY. You will maintain daily cleanliness across bathrooms, classrooms, and common areas, including trash removal and floor care. The role supports events with setup and ensures safe, orderly spaces.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 7am–4pm, with potential evening or weekend hours for special events. A High School diploma or GED is required, and prior experience in youth programs or community centers is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Previous youth based/school/community center security experience a plus.
• Previous experience working with a diverse population.
• The ideal candidate must be personable, energetic, and enthusiastic.
• Candidates must successfully complete: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; three (3) Reference Checks; Physical with updated TB Test.
• Valid CPR/AED Pro-certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dusting and cleaning all surface areas, fixtures, and furniture
• Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping flooring
• Restocking, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms
• Trash collection and removal
• Addressing spills and trip hazards
• Clearing debris from exterior walkways and roof areas
• Organize and restock cleaning supplies.
• Execute room and event set up, including tables, chairs, food prep stations, etc.
• Responds to building-related emergencies as directed by the Facilities Manager.
• Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, program participants, families, community members and program staff.
• Provide above duties at 175 Delancey Street, when requested
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
