Job summary

City of Independence is seeking a Custodian in the Parks and Recreation Department to perform custodial maintenance across City facilities, including cleaning restrooms, dusting, vacuuming, and window washing. The role involves moving equipment, delivering supplies, and ensuring buildings remain clean and safe.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 1–2 years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and completion of required NIMS training within six months.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years custodial maintenance experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• NIMS level training to be completed within first six months of hire.
• General knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures.
• Clear oral and written communication; ability to work as a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial maintenance across City facilities, ensuring cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
• Clean restrooms, dust, vacuum, wash windows, replenish supplies.
• Move office equipment and furniture; replace light bulbs; maintain building security.
• Operate a City vehicle to haul and deliver supplies and conduct City business.
• During winter weather, remove snow and ice from sidewalks and entryways.
