Job Description
Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.
This position will maintain the college facilities, property, and campus grounds in a manner that enhances and supports the college mission.
Performs custodial and maintenance tasks in specific assigned locations on a daily basis to meet the standards established by the college. Assists in the receiving and storage of equipment materials and supplies. Orders and maintains inventory of custodial supplies. Provides event setup services for campus and community events.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
High school education or equivalent; Experience in custodial and building maintenance. Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check. This position also requires a valid Virginia driver’s license and a forklift certification.
Knowledge of the principles and practices used in institutional or hospitality housekeeping and custodial maintenance. Knowledge of custodial methods, materials and supplies. Knowledge of custodial standards and safety practices, including chemical product safety. Skilled in general and custodial maintenance tasks and the operation of related equipment. Ability to apply ADA standards as it pertains to event setup and the arrangement of furniture and equipment. Knowledge of the materials handling equipment (e.g., carts, forklifts, pallet jacks) used in receiving, storing, and shipping materials and supplies. Ability to store materials, supplies, and equipment in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, other areas. Ability to work with little or no supervision. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively orally as well as in writing. Knowledge of hand and power tools, the ability to lift at least 50 lbs, and move tables, chairs and various furniture or other items. Good listening and organization skills are a must.
