Job summary

The Village of Libertyville is seeking a Maintenance Technician under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager to perform routine tasks and projects across HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, restocking supplies, painting and carpentry.

They will also complete work orders submitted by Village Departments, with occasional weekend and after-hours duties required. Benefits include IMRF eligibility and comprehensive health plans.

Qualifications

• Experience in building maintenance and custodial operations including HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to perform periodic building inspections.
• Experience with preventive maintenance on vital equipment.
• Capable of minor carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, electrical and HVAC repairs.
• Demonstrates good judgement, confidentiality, and policy adherence.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and work independently or with others.
• Proficient with computer, tablet, and cell phone to receive issues from staff.
• Able to use a computer for emails and researching parts; may require data entry.

Join the team at the Village of Libertyville! Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the position will perform routine tasks and projects such as but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical maintenance, restocking supplies, painting and carpentry. The position will also complete work orders submitted by Village Departments. Occasional weekend and after-hours duties may be required.

Hiring Range: $55,524 - $68,192 (Dependent upon relevant experience)
Full Salary Range: $55,524 - $80,860

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Building maintenance and custodial operations, including HVAC, mechanical and electrical building equipment, carpentry and plumbing.
• Performing periodical building inspections.
• Performing various preventive maintenance work orders on vital equipment.
• Minor carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, electrical, HVAC repairs, and improvements.
• Exercise good judgment, maintaining confidentiality, and making responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Prioritizing, organizing, and performing work independently and with other employees and contractors.
• Utilizing a computer, tablet, and cell phone to receive issues from staff that arise during the day.
• Ability to use a computer for sending emails and researching parts: may also require minor data entry necessary to track or perform work of the Department.

Required Experience, Certificates, Licenses

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Satisfactory work-related experience in facilities or construction trades. Building maintenance and/or HVAC certifications is a plus.
• A valid driver’s license is required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Work will entail lifting equipment and materials for maintenance and repair; moving, manipulating, and/or maneuvering parts and equipment that can frequently weigh 60 pounds or more; performing maintenance work in awkward spaces while repairing Village Facilities under all weather conditions; wearing appropriate safety gear; bending, twisting, and climbing ladders, etc.

Manual labor can be anticipated on a frequent basis. Must have the ability to reach and transport an object weighing up to 60 pounds from shoulder height to ground or from ground to shoulder height. Must be comfortable with heights, able to climb multi story ladders, utilize bucket trucks, and go on rooftops to perform maintenance and services to equipment. To perform job functions, employee must be able to bend, reach, squat, jump, climb and twist and possess no physical limitations (eyesight and hearing correction permitted). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
