Job summary

Village of Bensenville is seeking a Facilities Technician to perform a range of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of Village facilities. JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

The job duties of the Facilities Technician include but are not limited to performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the Village’s facilities and the components within those facilities within the village; and to provide responsive, courteous, and efficient service to Village residents and the general public. Assist in the removal of snow and ice from Village streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and other Village facilities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Facilities Technician I: This is the entry-level classification in the Facilities Division Technician series. This classification is distinguished by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the journeyman-level classification within this series. This class is typically used as a training level for those positions and may have limited or no directly related work experience. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, including the operation of applicable equipment, tools, and machinery.

Facilities Technician II: This is the journeyman-level class in the Facilities Technician series. This classification is distinguished by the performance of the full range of duties assigned to the Technician I and II, with only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise; the ability to pass on knowledge to less experienced staff; and the ability to serve as a lead worker over a crew.

Facilities Crew Leader: This is the foreman-level classification in the Facilities Technician series. This classification is distinguished by the ability to serve as a lead worker over a crew(s) and/or supervisor within the assigned area of responsibility. This position must perform more complex and responsible tasks and duties within the work unit, including training less experienced employees, planning and assigning projects and tasks, and handling a variety of administrative duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITES (including but not limited to):

The duties outlined below are representative of tasks that may be assigned to Technician I, Technician II, or Crew Leader positions. This job description incorporates any applicable municipal ordinances for all levels in the Technician positions. The list below is not exhaustive; additional responsibilities may be assigned as required:

  • Must be a TEAM Player.
  • Assist the general public, private contractors, and other Village Departments with complaints and questions in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, Fire alarm & Sprinkler systems, HVAC along with and understanding of facility building operations.
  • Basic understanding of general maintenance, such as painting, drywall installation and repair, roof types and repairs, floor types, paint types and application, pump types such as sump, sanitary, or potable water and their operation,
  • Working knowledge of electrical Including but not limited to; a working knowledge of a Volt/Amp/Ohm meter along with an understanding of electrical switches & circuits.
  • The ability to use a personal PC for the purpose of reviewing building automation systems, (BAS).
  • Safely operate and understand how to use a variety of Facilities equipment
  • Assist in the removal of snow and ice from Village streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and other facilities such as saws, snow blowers, drills, and other hand-held power tools.
  • Responsible for prioritizing safety in the workplace by strictly adhering to and familiarizing yourself with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Present safety topics to the department on a rotating basis.
  • Respond to after-hour callouts and be able to perform all necessary duties.
  • Participate in and complete all mandatory training assigned.
