Job summary

Community Solutions for Children, Families and Individuals is hiring a Facilities Maintenance Assistant in Gilroy, CA. You will perform plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical work to keep agency buildings and grounds safe and well-maintained.

You will coordinate with other facilities staff, supervise contractor work, and help manage move setups and safety compliance. A valid California driver’s license is needed for site visits and on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience in institutional and/or construction trades preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Experience with power equipment, electrical pumps/motors, construction tools.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, electrical and carpentry.
• Experience with standard safety practices.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Written and verbal English required.

SUMMARY

Community Solutions has an exciting full-time opportunity for anyone looking to continue their career in the Maintenance field. Working under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Assistant will ensure all agency buildings, grounds and equipment are maintained and repaired promptly. You will gain first hand experience while working with a team that has long tenure, dedication and a friendly work environment. Community Solutions has client facilities and office locations throughout Santa Clara County.

What You'll Be Doing in the role of Facilities Assistant

• Perform a variety of plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical maintenance.
• Repair and upkeep of all buildings, grounds and equipment to ensure a safe environment for all Agency buildings.
• Set up and take down for office moves, meetings or other functions.
• Respond to emergency situations and solve safety concerns in an immediate fashion.
• Operate various hand and power tools; as well as working with chemical cleaning products.
• Plan and organize work requests received by employees.
• Oversee the work completed by contractors to ensure all tasks are completed and meet safety requirements, regulations and codes.
• Assess all facilities and equipment problems and perform or recommend appropriate repairs.
• Maintain records of preventative maintenance services and service requests.
• Respond to phone calls and emails within 24 hours on business days to resolve outstanding issues.
• Attend and participate in Agency meetings and contribute to continuous quality improvement activities to enhance team and program development.
• Must have the ability to operate their personal or Agency motor vehicle between facilities.
• Participate in on-call and after-hours rotation as assigned.
• May be required to work some evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, frequently stand/walk, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, lift and move objects weighing up to 50lbs. Work is performed in office, housing, or community environments where staff and clients are present daily.

Work Environment and Location

This position requires working at various Agency and housing locations in Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Hollister, and San Jose.

Special Requirements

• Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance as required by specific programs, licensing regulations and Community Solutions practices.
• License: Possess a valid California driver’s license, current car insurance and a good driving record as documented by a DMV report and consistent with the Agency’s liability insurance requirements.
• Requires an automobile to perform routine job duties.
