Job summary

Community Action Marin is seeking a Facilities Assistant to join Site Operations & Compliance. You will perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and keep CAM facilities safe, clean, and functional across sites.

  • Perform general repairs including painting, carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical work and basic installations.

  • Clear clogged drains and perform basic masonry or patching work.
  • Address minor HVAC issues (filters, thermostat checks) as directed.
  • Support facility safety and cleanliness by removing trash and debris and hauling to disposal sites.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests and perform routine inspections and checklists.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; report shortages or needs.

About the role

Position: Facilities Assistant

Reports to: Manager, Facilities

Department: Site Operations & Compliance

Pay Rate: $24 hr.

Position Type: Full time- Hourly

The Facilities Assistant is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of Community Action Marin’s buildings, facilities, and equipment. This role supports the Facilities Manager and ensures safe, clean, and functional environments across all agency sites.

Essential Duties
Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform general repairs including painting, carpentry, plumbing, minor/basic electrical maintenance (fixtures, outlets, switches) and basic installations (e.g., blinds, fixtures, appliances) as appropriate and within the scope of the position.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks and assist in larger renovation and remodeling projects.
  • Clear clogged drains and perform basic masonry or patching work as needed.
  • Address minor HVAC issues (filters, condensation lines, thermostat checks) as directed.
  • Support facility safety and cleanliness by removing trash and debris and hauling to designated disposal sites.
Emergency Response & Inspections
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Perform routine facility inspections and record findings.
  • Maintain and update checklists for completed maintenance tasks.
  • Support inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; report shortages or needs.

Follow all safety protocols, use required PPE, and report hazards immediately.

Qualifications
Experience
  • Min 1–2 years of experience in building maintenance, construction, facilities support or an equivalent combination of training and hands‑on experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in painting, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic plans, diagrams, and work orders.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written work instructions, safety procedures, work orders, and related job documentation.
  • Basic math skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills for entering work orders, checklists, or inventory notes.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work well independently and with others.
  • A strong commitment to social justice, equity and the agency’s mission to provide high-quality programs to serve low-income individuals and families
  • Ability to articulate the role that equity, inclusion, and diversity play in our work.
  • Knowledge of basic workplace safety practices and willingness to follow OSHA-aligned procedures and site‑specific safety rules (including those applicable to childcare facilities).
Other Requirements
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background check.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Must be insurable under CAM’s automobile insurance policy.
  • Must be able to travel between agency sites using an agency vehicle or personal vehicle, as required and in accordance with CAM policy.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to respond to facility needs or emergencies when required.

  • Travel: Travel to sites using a personal vehicle may be required based on job duties
