Job summary

Bridge Over Troubled Waters in Boston seeks a Facilities and Maintenance Technician to diagnose problems, perform repairs and handle service requests across carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation and plumbing. The role includes on-call duties, coordination with vendors, and keeping the facility in safe, clean condition.

The candidate should have 2–3 years’ maintenance experience, ability to work independently, and a valid MA driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a maintenance-level position or related field required.
  • Experience in a nonprofit homelessness setting preferred.
  • Basic understanding and execution of the trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry etc) required.
  • Able to work on roofs/gutters, basements and foundations in tight areas and construction zones.
  • Wallpaper/Painting including use of paint sprayer necessary.
  • Experienced in the use of basic cleaning supplies and equipment required.
  • Able to work independently and will take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Must be personable with exceptional communication skills and a positive attitude, demonstrate attention to detail, and represent Bridge positively and professionally.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for executing maintenance requests by diagnosing problems, making repairs, and ensuring that service requests and repairs are made in a timely manner. This includes carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, plumbing, etc. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Facilities and Operations Manager.

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned.
  • Makel minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry related repairs, as necessary. Works with vendors to complete permitting on large-scale projects.
  • Coordinates and assists with departmental, resident and employee moves.
  • Hangs pictures, office decor and shelving etc., as needed.
  • Dismantles and installs furniture.
  • Transports goods or equipment as assigned.
  • Performs immediate cleaning duties necessary to maintain a clean and compliant facility.
  • Coordinates and oversees special projects.
  • Assists in monitoring all work being performed by outside contractors.
  • Responsible for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as scheduled.
  • Carries cell phone as required for on-call maintenance staff.
  • Monitors and maintains all building systems as assigned.
  • Completes grounds work including picking up trash, sweeping sidewalks to the curb, removing snow, and maintaining dumpster areas, landscaping beds and other areas.
  • Responsible for alerting Operations Manager of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that has taken place or that may occur.
  • Maintains a courteous professional manner with all residents, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees.
  • Assures safety standards are used that comply with all company, local, city, state and federal guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance of all work-related activities in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner.
  • Follows established company policies and those outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Special projects and other responsibilities as determined.

PAY AND BENEFITS

The hourly range for this position is $22-$25. Benefits include:

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up and exceeding 100 pounds.
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.
