Job summary

Community Action for Better Housing is seeking a reliable Maintenance Technician to service and maintain affordable housing properties in New Bedford and Fall River, MA. The role involves diagnosing problems, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, and addressing resident service requests to keep properties safe and well-maintained.

The position supports residents in the New Bedford and Fall River area, with duties spanning routine upkeep, unit turnovers, and coordination with vendors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of two (2) years of maintenance, facilities, building, or property management experience.
• Working knowledge of residential maintenance procedures and building systems.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, HVAC, and appliance repair.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
• Basic computer skills, including email and work order systems.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on residential units and common areas.
• Complete vacant unit turn-overs to ensure apartments are rent-ready in a timely manner.
• Respond to maintenance work orders and emergency service requests promptly and professionally.
• Perform period maintenance and inspections, as assigned, and recommend corrective action of building systems and equipment.
• Assist in coordinating and monitoring vendor and contractor activities, ensure work is completed satisfactorily.

Community Action for Better Housing (CABH) is seeking a reliable, skilled, and service-oriented Maintenance Technician to assist with the operation and maintenance of affordable housing properties in New Bedford and Fall River, Mass. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance tasks while ensuring that properties remain safe, clean, and well-maintained for residents. This position requires the ability to diagnose problems, complete repairs, respond to resident service requests, and work independently while maintaining positive resident relations.

Community Action for Better Housing empowers individuals and families to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness by providing safe, comfortable, and affordable housing, along with essential resources for personal advancement. We serve low-income families and individuals in the New Bedford and Fall River, MA area, including those who are homeless, disabled, or elderly.

Key Responsibilities

• Familiarity with HUD regulations and affordable housing programs (PBV,MRVP)
• Experience in multifamily, affordable housing, public housing, or property management maintenance.
• Experience with property management software and mobile work order applications.
• Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese

Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform physical labor.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to pass a CORI background check
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Reliable transportation.

Work Schedule

• Full-time position, generally Monday through Friday.
• Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency response work may be required.
• Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
