Job summary

Schenectady Community Action Program (SCAP) is hiring at the Main Office in Schenectady, NY. Earn $22.00 to $28.00 per hour delivering career readiness training and outreach services.

Responsibilities include recruiting participants, developing curricula, and connecting clients with resources. The role supports barrier removal and community partnerships while promoting SCAP’s mission to reduce poverty through education and employment readiness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in adult education, counseling, or related field.
  • One year experience as a group facilitator or counselor working with adults.
  • New York State driver’s license and access to a car; willingness to travel.
  • Experience accessing community resources and building relationships with partners.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic classroom technology.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and engage participants through outreach strategies for broad access to services.
  • Develop curriculum for Career Readiness Workshops; update with best practices.
  • Remain current on workforce development trends through trainings and collaboration.
  • Model professional workplace behavior and effective communication.
  • Refer customers to in-house case management and community resources.
  • Support barrier-removal efforts including transportation and childcare.
  • Promote the Work Readiness Training program via outreach events and partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit and engage participants through outreach strategies designed to ensure broad access to services for anyone who may benefit, ensuring full classes; prepare adequately prior to class.
  • Develop curriculum for Career Readiness Workshops and recommend updates to keep it current with best practices. Incorporate core WRT components such as professional communication, teamwork, problem solving, time management, workplace culture, digital literacy, and job‑search skills.
  • Remain current regarding workforce development and program development by researching best practice and workforce trends, regularly interacting with colleagues, and attending trainings and workshops as available.
  • Model and teach appropriate workplace behavior by incorporating concepts into everyday interactions such as timeliness, conflict resolution, and appropriate communications and appearance.
  • Assist customers with referral to support services by actively referring for in‑house case management and sharing new knowledge of community resources with the team.
  • Support implementation of barrier‑removal assistance, including transportation, childcare, technology access, and work‑appropriate clothing resources.
  • Promote the Work Readiness Training program through outreach events, community partnerships, and collaboration with local Career Centers. Demonstrate proactive knowledge of SCAP’s services.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in adult education, counseling, or related field.
  • One (1) year experience as a group facilitator or counselor working with adults in a similar environment.
  • Must have a New York State driver’s license, have regular access to a car, and be willing to travel to off‑site locations.
  • Must have experience accessing community‑based resources and the ability to create relationships with business and workforce development experts.
  • Ability to learn quickly the resources available to low‑income people, and to adequately refer to existing in‑house and external community resources.
  • Demonstrated computer expertise with Microsoft Office, the use of Smart Boards, and the ability to stay up to date on workplace technology. Use technology required for hybrid/virtual training delivery and support digital literacy instruction for participants.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively as a team and display good problem‑solving skills both as a facilitator and as an employee.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to individuals and families in poverty. Ability to build upon the strengths of those we serve with diverse racial, cultural, social, educational and economic backgrounds, including high‑risk populations, to provide high‑level services and lasting solutions to fit each individual’s and family’s needs.
  • Must have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
