Job summary

Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division is seeking a Fabrication Welder to train and direct fabrication, welding, and installation of metal items at our Central Shops in Memphis, TN. The role involves welding on stainless steel, cast iron, and other metals, repairing equipment, and reading blueprints to lay out work.

The position requires completion of an approved Fabrication Welding Apprenticeship or equivalent training, and possession of a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must have completed an approved Fabrication Welding Apprenticeship or equivalent training.
• Welder qualifications under ANSI D1.1-90 and D1.2-90.
• Ability to read blueprints and layouts.

Responsibilities

• Forge/repair items such as valves, keys, meter hooks, and tools; select metal and heat/hammer/grind as needed.
• Perform electric arc, MIG, and TIG welding on various metals; inspect welding equipment and hydraulic gear.
• Design/construct jigs, patterns, tools, fixtures, and dies; operate shop machinery and read blueprints.
