Kloeckner Metals - Americas in Indianapolis is seeking a Fabrication Fitter/Welder to support customer fabrication orders with accurate, on-time production while upholding safety standards. The role emphasizes teamwork, equipment setup, and adherence to welding procedures.

You will read blueprints, select and operate welding equipment, and inspect finished work for quality. Reports to the Operations Manager and works with the Production Manager or Supervisor to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of industrial fabrication welding experience; ability to pass a weld test may be required.
• Blueprints and job specifications reading ability.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with welding tools and equipment.
• High School diploma or GED required; vocational school or related on-the-job experience preferred.
• Careful attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
• Reliable and responsible, with a strong commitment to fulfilling obligations.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions and tasks.
• Capable of working independently and managing tasks effectively.
• Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility.
• Demonstrated reliable work history.

Responsibilities

• Welding Operations: Set up and operate hand and power tools used in welding and weld components in various positions.
• Safety Practices: Operate safety equipment and maintain a safe working environment.
• Preparation and Assembly: Lay out, position, align, and secure parts before welding using measuring tools.
• Inspection and Measurement: Examine workpieces and verify dimensions meet specifications.
• Material Handling: Weld with various materials and prepare surfaces by cleaning contaminants.
• Tool and Equipment Selection: Select torches, tips, filler rods, and flux per specifications.
• Process Monitoring: Monitor fitting, burning, and welding to prevent overheating or distortion.
• Technical Reading: Interpret engineering drawings and work orders to plan welding operations.
• Marking and Tagging: Mark materials with job numbers and identifiers as required.
• Maintenance and Repair: Detect faulty equipment and notify supervisors; assist in repairs.
