The Fabrication Shop Co-Op student at Burkes Mechanical, Inc. will assist skilled fabricators, welders, and machinists in daily shop operations, supporting material prep, equipment upkeep, and production tasks to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities include loading and unloading materials, cleaning and prepping parts, operating basic shop tools, maintaining a safe workspace, and reporting quality issues to supervisors. This role emphasizes hands-on learning and reliability.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist fabricators and welders with setup and preparation of materials
• Load, unload, and move raw materials and finished products
• Clean, grind, deburr, and prep metal or other materials for fabrication
• Operate basic shop tools and equipment (e.g., drills, saws, grinders)
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Follow safety procedures and wear required protective equipment (PPE)
• Help with measuring, cutting, and assembling parts under supervision
• Perform basic quality checks and report issues to supervisors
• Organize tools, materials, and supplies
• Assist with inventory tracking and restocking materials
