Job summary

Michigan State University (MSU) FRIB Laboratory seeks a Machine Shop Scheduling and Materials Coordinator to manage work order scheduling, budget adherence, and quality in supporting fabrication and assembly of precise components and equipment.

Responsibilities include coordinating planning, guiding fabrication processes, coordinating materials with procurement, and maintaining traceability across production activities.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1–3 years of related and progressively more responsible work experience.
• Knowledge of production planning and scheduling methodologies.
• Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates work requests and supports work orders through MRP systems; supports labor, and resource requirements; and monitors, analyzes, and reports on schedule performance to ensure alignment with project timelines.
• Provides guidance on design feasibility, material selection, specifications, and fabrication/assembly sequencing; fabricated details, assembles, and maintains complex components and technical equipment to precise standards based on blueprints and instructions.
• Coordinates with procurement to secure raw materials and required resources; tracks and maintains inventory locations; and ensures proper material control and traceability throughout the production process.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
