Job summary

SPX Technologies in Madison, AL is seeking an Operations Manager to provide hands-on leadership for safe, reliable, and efficient fabrication operations across multiple shifts, including machine shop and paint. You will develop supervisors and hourly staff, drive operating discipline, and deliver results in safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and people.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong manufacturing knowledge, and a proven track record of scaling operations and leading

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of supervisory or operations leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience leading multiple shifts and production teams.
• Experience in highly engineered, customized, or configured products.
• Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, capacity management, labor planning, inventory control, and quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead production supervisors across multiple shifts, delivering safe and effective operations.
• Help determine strategy and priorities for site operations as part of the plant leadership team.
• Build a culture of trust, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with Human Resources for workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and retention of production employees.
• Identify capability gaps and implement training, certification, cross-training, and development plans for supervisors and hourly employees.
• Lead performance management, succession planning, and talent development for the fabrication organization.
• Own daily execution across fabrication, machine shop, and paint operations to meet production schedules and customer commitments.
• Translate demand into capacity, labor, shift, equipment, tooling, and floor-space requirements.
• Manage departmental budgets, labor performance, overtime, consumables, and operating costs.
• Coordinate with Materials, Planning, Procurement, and Logistics to ensure material readiness and uninterrupted production flow.
• Lead Lean deployment, standard work, and visual management; drive continuous improvement across the site.
