Job summary

Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a 1st Shift Fabrication Operator for our Tipton, KS facility. The role runs Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime on Fridays as needed, in a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of fabrication experience, can read drawings, and perform basic math with fractions and decimals. This position supports setup, operation, and cleaning of various fabrication machines to produce metal parts.

Qualifications

• One to three years' experience as a fabrication operator or similar.
• Basic understanding of computer functions and various software.
• Must be able to read prints and understand all press brake operations.
• Must have strong math skills, including proficiency with fractions and decimals.

Responsibilities

• Set up, tend and operate fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, shears, roller, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, punch machines, laser cutting, CNC plasma, etc.
• Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, template, or computer program.
• Position work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
• Push button or depress pedal to activate machine.
• Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.

Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a 1st Shift Fabrication Operator to join our team in our facility in Tipton, KS.

This position works Monday-Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime on Fridays, as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set up, tend and operate fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, shears, roller, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, punch machines, laser cutting, CNC plasma, etc. that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
• Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, template, or computer program. Locate and mark bending and cutting lines onto work piece.
• Position work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
• Push button or depress pedal to activate machine.
• Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
• Measure work piece dimensions with varying measuring devices to determine accuracy of machine operation.
• Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.
• Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
• Assist machine operators to set up machine, and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces.
• Monitor fabricating tasks and recommends quality improvement initiatives to the fabrication manager.
• Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned that require additional qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
