GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC seeks a Battery Controls Engineer to advance embedded software for the ERS team. You’ll design and optimize real-time battery protection, SOC/SOH, and diagnostics for the Formula 1 hybrid power unit, collaborating with controls and hardware engineers.

You’ll develop robust C/C++ code, perform MiL/SiL/HiL testing, and ensure compliance with safety standards, contributing to a high-performance motorsport program.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of embedded software development experience, ideally in automotive or motorsport.
• Expertise in battery management systems and control algorithms (SOC, SOH, derating).
• Familiarity with HV systems, CAN/CAN FD, Ethernet, and real-time software practices.
• Proficiency in embedded C and multithreaded, real-time code.
• Strong problem solving, teamwork, and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software for HV battery management and related components.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, hardware abstraction, and real-time communications.
• Collaborate with controls and hardware teams for cohesive system operation.
• Conduct MiL/SiL/HiL, and trackside testing, debugging, and validation.
• Create requirements and unit tests; ensure code quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Document technical work and contribute to continuous improvement in embedded software.
