Job summary

The Newbury Boston is seeking a Food & Beverage Manager in Training to support all aspects of the F&B operation, including on-the-floor, kitchen coverage, clerical work, and marketing materials. You will provide attentive, courteous service to guests while assisting in smooth restaurant and banquet operations.

This role involves flexible hours, strong communication, and cross-training across hotel departments.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • At least 1 year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • College coursework in a related field is helpful.
  • Computer knowledge/skills required.
  • Flexible with long or varied hours; ability to exert up to 20 pounds and, occasionally, more as needed.

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with employees and guests in a friendly, courteous, and service‑oriented manner.
  • Assist with guest communication via e-mail, phone, and in person.
  • Listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with hotel standards, per scheduling needs.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
  • Comply with hotel standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Identify problem areas, take initiative, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Handle problems effectively by anticipating, preventing, and solving issues as necessary.
  • Greet guests, clients, and employees as required and attend meetings or trainings per management.
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office and related tools as applicable.

Overview

The Food & Beverage Manager in Training will receive exposure to and provide support in all aspects of the food and beverage operation, including on-the-floor and kitchen coverage, clerical, administrative, marketing materials, and other duties to assist in the smooth operation of Food & Beverage. He/she is also responsible for providing attentive, courteous and efficient service to all guests.

Location

The Newbury Boston at One Newbury Street, located in the premier shopping and dining neighborhood of Boston's Back Bay, is a luxury property with a rich history and contemporary guest experiences.

Compensation

Compensation Type: Hourly
Compensation Minimum: USD $25.00/Yr.
Compensation Maximum: USD $27.00/Yr.

  • Provide floor coverage in the Street Bar and support back‑of‑house culinary, stewarding, and personal dining teams as needed.
  • Attend BEO meetings to assist in planning and execution of banquet operations.
  • Provide clerical support such as editing, printing, distributing menus, data entry, and compiling reports from the POS system.
  • Act as a host using the guest reservation system to enhance arrival, dining, and departure experiences.
  • Answer telephone and email messages in a timely manner.
  • Manage incoming catering inquiries and distribute information as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest computer programs/innovations relevant to the role.
  • Assist with catering event resumes, distribution, and BEOs; manage event guarantees and related correspondence.
  • Filing and organizing correspondence and maintaining adequate office supplies for smooth operations.
  • Distribute and maintain meeting minutes and related trace files as needed.
  • Prepare Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and Group Resumes as required.
  • Greet guests, clients, and employees as required and attend meetings or trainings per management.
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office and related tools as applicable.
