Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking an optical technician to evaluate prescriptions and determine lens requirements. You will recommend lenses and frames, measure critical facial dimensions, and prepare orders for grinding and fitting eyeglasses.

You will assist clients with frame selection and lens care, sell contact lenses and optical goods, and perform repairs while maintaining high service standards. ABO certification is preferred; High School diploma required.

Qualifications

• High School graduate preferred.
• Experience in optical, optometry or ophthalmic field preferred.
• ABO certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates prescription in conjunction with client's visual requirements.
• Determines client's current lens prescription using lensometer or lens analyzer.
• Recommends lenses, coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
• Assists client in selecting frames according to style and facial measurements.
• Measures bridge, eye size, temple length, vertex distance, and pupillary distance.
• Prepares work orders for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
• Verifies finished lenses meet specifications.
• Heats/shapes frames to fit client; provides care instructions for glasses.
• Sells and fits contact lenses and optical goods.
• Repairs damaged frames and orders display frames.
