Job summary

Socket.dev in San Diego, CA is seeking an Optometry Technician to support ophthalmologists with testing vision, patient histories, and charting. You will assist with slit lamp exams, eye drop administration, and intraocular pressure measurements in a clinical setting.

Ideal candidates have at least one year of relevant experience, a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, and the ability to obtain necessary security clearances.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Optometry Technician certification or completion of formal ophthalmic training program (US Armed Forces) preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year full-time experience as an Optician or Optometry Technician in a clinical setting within the last 2 years.
• Active BLS certification required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain security access/background checks.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient histories and verify prescriptions.
• Assist in testing vision and measuring acuity and visual fields.
• Examine the eye using slit lamp for cornea and anterior/posterior chamber abnormalities.
• Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicates eyes.
• Measure intraocular pressure (glaucoma testing).
• Instruct patients on eye care and contact lens handling.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
