Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program preferred.
  • Certification as a COA or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in ophthalmology/optometry.
  • Proficiency with ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and documents patient histories.
  • Performs vision tests including visual acuity, tonometry, pupil evaluation, refraction, and color vision.
  • Administers eye drops and topical medications as directed by the physician.
  • Conducts diagnostic imaging such as OCT, fundus photography, and visual field testing.
  • Assists with in-office procedures and minor surgeries.
  • Prepares examination rooms and maintains ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Educates patients on treatment plans, medication usage, and post-procedure care.
  • Maintains patient records in the EMR system.
  • Adheres to infection control, safety, and confidentiality standards.
