Job summary

Katmai Government Services in San Diego, CA is seeking an Optometry Technician to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist with a range of clinical duties at an accredited medical facility.

The role requires patient interaction, accurate records, and proficiency with ophthalmic equipment. A high school diploma or GED, active BLS and recent clinical experience are essential. This is a full-time position in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must possess and maintain current certification as an Optometry Technician OR have completed a formal ophthalmic training program of the United States Armed Forces.
• Must possess a minimum of one year full-time experience within the last two years as an Optician or Optometry Technician in a clinical setting.
• Must have an Active BLS Certification.
• Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient histories, perform prescription verification, and maintain patient records.
• Assist in testing patient vision: acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
• Examine the eye using a slit lamp for cornea and anterior/posterior chamber abnormalities.
• Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
• Measure intraocular pressure (glaucoma test).
• Test field of vision and chart results on graph paper.
• Measure axial length of eye using ultrasound equipment.
• Instruct patients concerning eye care and contact lens handling.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
