Our client is seeking a hands‑on Process Engineer – Extrusion Blow Molding to develop, optimize, and support stable, repeatable, and capable manufacturing processes across a network of manufacturing facilities.
This role will apply deep technical knowledge of extrusion blow molding processes, equipment, materials, molds, and tooling to troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues, improve process performance, and support new product commercialization. The Process Engineer will also play a critical role in equipment commissioning, process validation, technical training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The position reports to the Global Technical Center in York, PA and may work remotely, with approximately 50% travel to manufacturing locations.
Responsibilities
Process Development & Optimization
- Develop extrusion blow molding processes to support the commercialization and successful launch of new products.
- Establish stable and repeatable manufacturing processes and document Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs).
- Optimize production processes and establish appropriate operating limits for critical process variables.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for process control, machine setup, and manufacturing operations.
- Process unit cavity molds as part of product and process development activities.
- Support process validation and production readiness during new equipment installation and commissioning.
Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Diagnose and resolve complex extrusion blow molding machine, mold, tooling, material, and process issues.
- Lead structured problem‑solving activities and implement technically sound, sustainable corrective actions.
- Apply PDCA, statistical analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and data‑driven problem‑solving techniques to improve manufacturing performance.
- Partner with plant teams to address production challenges and improve process capability, reliability, quality, and efficiency.
- Provide recommendations for improvements to machinery, molds, tooling, processes, and bottle design.
- Drive continuous improvement of process engineering standards, tools, SOPs, and technical practices.
- Establish and promote standardized processing methods across manufacturing locations.
- Audit manufacturing processes and SOP compliance to ensure consistent execution and process control.
- Identify opportunities to improve process capability, reduce variation, and enhance overall manufacturing performance.
Training & Technical Support
- Train skilled plant personnel and technical specialists on extrusion blow molding machine setup, process control, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
- Provide hands‑on technical support to manufacturing facilities throughout the plant network.
- Develop clear technical documentation and communicate findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
- Prepare written technical reports for plant teams, leadership, vendors, and customers.
Qualifications
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of extrusion blow molding processes, equipment, molds, tooling, and materials.
- Strong understanding of blow molding resins and other raw materials.
- Demonstrated processing experience with monolayer, multilayer, single‑parison, and multiple‑parison bottle manufacturing.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting capabilities with extrusion blow molding equipment.
- In‑depth knowledge of one to two blow molding equipment platforms, with working knowledge of additional platforms.
- Experience applying statistics, data analysis, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of PDCA and structured problem‑solving methodologies.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment and process issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively train and communicate technical concepts to manufacturing and technical personnel.
- Ability to travel approximately 50%.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment required.
- Hands‑on experience setting up, operating, maintaining, rebuilding, and troubleshooting extrusion blow molding equipment.
- Experience with equipment platforms such as Graham Wheel, Techne Shuttles, Techne Rotax, Uniloy, VR, Wilmington, CE, or similar extrusion blow molding systems is highly desirable.
