Job summary

Richmond University Medical Center in New York is seeking a Nurse Extern for the Emergency Department. The extern helps nursing students build confidence, communication, and clinical skills while reinforcing fundamentals of nursing under supervision.

The program emphasizes patient care education, supportive teamwork, and professional growth in a busy ED. Shift is day shift, 7.5 hours, with compensation at $17.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Associate or Baccalaureate Nursing Program.
• Completion of introductory Nursing/Medical/Surgical courses and clinical practicum.
• High school diploma required; BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing students in gaining self-confidence, communication, critical thinking and clinical skills.
• Reinforce fundamentals of nursing education and professional nursing roles.
• Support Emergency Department operations under supervision.

Job Description

Our Nurse Extern program assist select nursing students in gaining a greater level of self-confidence, communication, critical thinking skills, time-management skills and clinical competence through reinforcing the fundamentals of nursing education, theoretical knowledge, awareness of the role of the professional nurse and the understanding of organizational structure and operations within the Emergency Department setting. As the Nurse Extern is not a registered nurse, they will not administer medications in any form, initiate blood transfusions or administer or monitor any blood products.

Requirement

Current enrollment in an accredited Associateor Baccalaureate Professional NursingProgram.

Completion of an introductionof Nursing/Medical/Surgical courses and clinical practicum. High school diploma required.

Certification/Licensure: BLS required.

Salary: $17.00/hr
