Job summary

Actalent in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Body Exterior Design Release Engineer to own the in-house design and release of safety restraint components from CAD drawings to launch.

You will lead verification plans, ensure compliance with corporate specs, support a 3-year product lifecycle, and collaborate with Program Management, Costing, and Tooling to shepherd parts through development from concept to production.

Qualifications

• CAD and release expertise required for automotive exterior systems.
• Experience in new product development and CAD; Build to Print processes.
• 5–10 years of component-level mechanical design experience.

Responsibilities

• Interact with all stages of part development from CAD drawings to final product launch.
• Lead development and execution of product verification plans.
• Ensure components meet corporate requirements and specifications.
• Drive timelines across the 3-year product development lifecycle.
• Visit supplier sites and assist during launches and initial builds.
• Collaborate with testing/validation to meet client requirements.
• Own responsibility for seat structures and related programs.
• Oversee prototype part examinations and testing stages.
• Coordinate with Program Management, Costing, and Tooling across lifecycles.
• Manage pressures on cost, weight, functionality, manufacturability, sizing.
