Job summary

Summa Health System is seeking a full-time courier/driver to operate a hospital vehicle, delivering and picking up items across on- and off-site facilities. You will document routes, ensure timeliness, and may assist with clerical tasks as needed.

Applicants must be able to read and write English, navigate with maps, possess a valid Ohio driver’s license, and complete a 90-day training period. This role requires customer-focused communication and the ability to work varied shifts.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or over at time of hire.
• Must have valid Ohio Driver’s License and meet Summa Fleet Insurance Standards.
• Must successfully complete a basic 90-day probationary training.
• Ability to work with managers and staff in user areas and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Drive hospital vehicle to deliver and pick up items from various on- and off-site facilities.
• Documents and tracks pick-ups and deliveries to include quantity and timeliness.
• May perform clerical duties such as filing, report processing, typing, and answering the telephone in a polite and courteous manner if necessary.
• Receives and informs supervisor of day-to-day route issues.

Summary

Drives hospital vehicle to deliver and pick up items (e.g., blood and other specimens, lab results, U.S. Postal Service Mail, packages and interdepartmental mail, patient equipment, etc.) from various on- and off-site facilities. Documents and tracks pick-ups and deliveries to include quantity and timeliness. May perform clerical duties such as filing, report processing, typing, and answering the telephone in a polite and courteous manner if necessary. Receives and informs supervisor of day-to-day route issues.

Minimum Qualifications

• Formal Education Required:


• Proven ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instruction, read and follow a map and perform basic mathematical functions.


• Experience & Training Required:


• Must be 21 years of age or over at time of hire.


• Must have valid Ohio Driver’s License and meet Summa Fleet Insurance Standards.


• ONLY IF POSITION IS ASSIGNED to backup Dispatcher I – must pass typing test of 30 wpm.


• Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:


• Expected to successfully complete a basic training program that provides knowledge of hospital procedures and related medical terminology within the 90 day probationary period.


• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with managers and staff in user areas (e.g., nursing staff, secretaries, nursing assistant, physician office staff, etc.).


• Ability to work independently and solve problems without direct supervision.


• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with customers.


• Ability to maintain a customer focus in all work activities.


• Must be able to work various shifts.


• Standing, walking and driving for extended periods of time; lifting, pushing, or carrying heavy to medium weight stock items.


• Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the Summa’s Service Excellence policy.


• Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.


• Must be able to obtain vendors badge access from various facilities

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials.
