Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is hiring an Export Coordinator - Ocean to support international ocean export operations from Dallas. You will assist bookings, preparation of export documents, and shipment tracking, ensuring accuracy and on-time departures.

You will work with steamship lines, NVOCCs, and internal teams, following procedures and timelines. Strong organizational and communication skills, plus experience with CargoWise, are valued in this on-site role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; degree in logistics or related field preferred.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, or related operations roles desired.
  • Familiarity with ocean freight, containerized shipping, and export documentation preferred.
  • Proficiency with CargoWise or similar TMS/forwarding tools or ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate ocean export shipments including bookings, container movements, and vessel cut-offs.
  • Prepare and process export documents (bills of lading, shipping instructions, commercial docs).
  • Enter and update shipment details in CargoWise and other TMS systems.
  • Track sailing schedules and milestones to support on-time departures.
  • Communicate with steamship lines, NVOCCs, drayage providers, warehouses, and overseas agents.
  • Follow export compliance, carrier rules, and internal procedures.
  • Identify document errors or delays and elevate as needed.
  • Support rate entry, charge validation, and billing accuracy.
  • Respond to customer inquiries about shipment status and docs.
  • Maintain organized shipment files and records.
  • Assist with workload during peak shipping periods.

Job Description

The Export Coordinator - Ocean supports international ocean export operations by coordinating shipment activities and ensuring accurate execution of export processes. They assist with bookings, documentation, and shipment tracking while following established procedures and timelines. They work closely with shipping lines, customers, and internal teams to support vessel departures and documentation accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordinating ocean export shipments, including bookings, container movements, and vessel cut‑offs.
  • Prepare and process export documentation such as bills of lading, shipping instructions, and commercial documents.
  • Enter and update shipment details accurately in CargoWise and other transportation management systems.
  • Track sailing schedules and shipment milestones to support on‑time departures.
  • Communicate with steamship lines, NVOCCs, drayage providers, warehouses, and overseas agents.
  • Follow export compliance requirements, carrier rules, and internal operating procedures.
  • Identify documentation errors, cut‑off risks, or shipment delays and elevate appropriately.
  • Support rate entry, charge validation, and billing accuracy.
  • Respond to customer inquiries related to shipment status and documentation.
  • Maintain organized shipment files and records.
  • Assist with workload coverage during peak shipping periods.
  • All other duties as assigned to meet evolving business needs.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; undergraduate degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in logistics, transportation, or related operations roles.
  • Basic understanding of ocean freight, containerized shipping, and export documentation preferred.
  • Experience with CargoWise or similar TMS/forwarding tools or demonstrated ability to learn systems quickly.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to follow defined procedures and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality in handling and protecting sensitive information.
  • Technical: Proficient with common office technologies, including Windows PCs, Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and web conferencing (Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.).
  • Environment: Comfort commuting to/from and working in a 100% on‑site setting (listed in this posting), with travel for related meetings/events.
