Job summary

Smith, a leading electronic components distributor, seeks a Trade Compliance Specialist to ensure regulatory adherence for global shipments. You will guide internal teams on import/export controls, maintain HTS classifications, and support audits with accuracy and accountability.

Candidate should have 3+ years in trade compliance, BA/BS in logistics or related field, and strong English communication. Proficiency with DNB/Alliance tools and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics or supply chain or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of trade compliance experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of HTS database management experience preferred.
  • Proficient English communication is required.
  • Detail oriented and organized; self-motivated with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Understand regional and global rules and advise management/adapt processes where required.
  • Ensure adherence to import/export controls and related regulatory requirements.
  • Provide general trade compliance guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist audits and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain customs-related master data with Export Licensing and Quality Control teams.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders to ensure proper documentation for shipments.
  • Investigate unusual business activity and report to senior management.

Job Purpose

To support Operations and Legal teams by ensuring Smith’s compliance with regional and global trade compliance regulations.

Essential Job Duties
  • Understand regional and global rules and regulatory requirements and advise management/adapt processes where required
  • Ensure Smith’s adherence to regulatory requirements relating to activities such as import/export controls, etc.
  • Provide general trade compliance guidance and support to Smith’s internal stakeholders
  • Assist in execution of internal and external audits relating to trade compliance and implementation of corrective actions
  • Work with Export Licensing and Quality Control teams to research and maintain customs related master data (e.g., part type classification information)
  • Work with third party service providers (e.g., freight forwarders) to ensure proper execution of and documentation for international shipments
  • Investigate and report unusual business activity that may result in a violation and/or inquiry to senior management
Job Qualifications Experience
  • 3+ years of trade compliance experience preferred
  • 3+ years of experience with HTS database management preferred
  • Prior experience working in the semiconductor/electronics distribution industry a plus
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English are required
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
Education

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., logistics or supply chain) or equivalent job experience preferred

Certifications

ECTI certification preferred

Software Requirements

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Experience with DNB, Alliance or other trade compliance tools

  • Capable of interpreting regulations and translating them into business practices
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation, organizational and teaching skills
  • Ability to drive compliance behaviors in good balance with business objectives
