Responsibilities

• Make alterations to suits, shirts, coats, blazers, dresses and trousers for men and women.
• Shorten/lengthen sleeves; taper sides; lower collars; take in/out waist and seat/rise.
• Take in/out trousers; shorten/lengthen; taper thigh and foot widths.
• Ensure proper sizing and deliver client-ready garments on time.
• Maintain professional interactions and track daily alteration production.
• Press finished garments, trim threads, and complete order readiness.
• Maintain clean workspace and complete related paperwork.

Tom James Custom Clothing sales office in Southfield, MI is seeking a full-time Seamstress/Tailor or Master Tailor. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional who takes pride in exceptional craftsmanship, has outstanding attention to detail, and is committed to delivering perfectly tailored, high-quality garments.

This is a full-time, on-site position averaging 30–35 hours per week. Compensation is offered on either an hourly or piece-rate basis, depending on the candidate's experience, skills, and preference.

Tailor Job Summary

Performs alterations as directed for our clients' high-end garments and delivers professionally finished garments on time.

Demonstrates knowledge of fabric and standard tailoring concepts and procedures with quality workmanship for men's and women's garments.

Tailor Job Responsibilities and Duties

• To make adjustments to men’s and women’s suits, shirts, coats, blazers, dresses, and trousers. Included, but not limited to:
• Shorten/lengthen sleeves
• Taper sides of garments
• Lower collars
• Take in/out trousers waist
• Take in/out seat and rise on pants
• Shorten/lengthen trousers
• Taper trouser thighs and foot widths
• Ensure proper sizing of clients
• Manages all interactions with professionalism
• Tracks detailed alteration production daily
• Performs alterations on all garments submitted for alteration, presses finished garment, removes threads, and completes for client-ready
• Completes all work promptly to ensure customer delivery date
• Maintains a clean work environment and maintains all required paperwork related to daily assignments

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of tailoring experience in a retail or customer-service environment
• Strong working knowledge of garment construction in men's and women's apparel and ability to perform high-quality workmanship including hand and by machine
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Self-starter
• Able to perform multiple tasks efficiently with a strong organization of time
