Job summary

SKY TPO in Glendale, CA is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to review and underwrite Non-QM loan applications in line with guidelines and investor requirements. You will analyze creditworthiness, income, assets, and overall financial profiles to assess risk.

You will issue clear underwriting decisions, work with Account Managers, brokers, processors, and internal teams, and stay current on Non-QM products, guidelines, and regulatory changes while maintaining accurate notes.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of Mortgage Underwriter experience
• Strong Non-QM underwriting experience is required or preferred
• Knowledge of Non-QM loan products, guidelines, credit risk and income analysis
• Experience underwriting bank statements, DSCR, asset depletion and investor documentation

Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite Non-QM loan applications per guidelines and investor requirements
• Analyze borrower creditworthiness, income, assets, liabilities and overall financial profile
• Evaluate Non-QM income documentation and alternative documentation
• Review appraisals, title, insurance, credit reports and other documents to assess loan risk
• Make sound underwriting decisions balancing credit risk and business objectives
• Issue underwriting decisions, conditions, approvals and denials with clear rationale
• Communicate decisions and conditions to Account Managers, brokers, processors and internal teams
• Maintain underwriting turn-time by reviewing documentation and conditions promptly
• Analyze complex loan scenarios and guide on structuring loans per Non-QM guidelines
• Collaborate with Account Managers, Operations, Closing, Credit and other teams to move transactions forward
• Identify potential credit, compliance or documentation issues and escalate as needed
• Maintain understanding of SKY TPO Non-QM products, overlays and competitive positioning
• Stay current on Non-QM guideline changes and regulatory requirements
• Maintain accurate underwriting notes and documentation in loan files
• Ensure underwriting activities meet company, investor and regulatory standards
• Represent SKY TPO with professionalism and strong Non-QM product knowledge
