CAKE Mortgage, a cutting-edge wholesale lender specializing in Non-QM products, is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter, Manager to lead our underwriting team. The ideal candidate will combine deep Non-QM product knowledge with strong analytical and leadership skills to guide daily operations and ensure compliance with guidelines.

You will mentor underwriters, review high‑risk files, monitor pipelines and SLAs, collaborate with sales, processing, funding, QC and compliance, and stay

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
• 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing underwriters.
• 3+ years direct Non-QM experience.
• Proficient in analyzing income sources (bank statements, P&L, asset depletion, DSCR).
• Strong understanding of mortgage credit risk and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of mortgage underwriters and provide coaching and feedback.
• Oversee underwriting process for accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
• Review and approve complex or high-risk loan files.
• Monitor pipelines, workflow, and SLAs for timely turn times.
• Collaborate with sales, processing, funding, QC and compliance to resolve issues.
