About EBway

EBway LLC is an established precision metal stamping manufacturer located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With approximately 60 years of manufacturing experience, we specialize in producing high-quality, precision-stamped metal components for demanding industrial applications.

We are looking for an experienced Metal Stamping Press Setup Operator / Die Setter who can independently set up, adjust, operate, and troubleshoot stamping presses.

This is not an entry-level machine operator position.

Position Overview

The Stamping Press Setup Operator will be responsible for preparing stamping presses for production, installing and aligning dies, setting up coil feeding systems, adjusting press parameters, producing first-piece samples, and maintaining consistent production quality.

The ideal candidate understands the relationship between press settings, tooling alignment, material feeding, daily production output, and finished-part quality.

The operator must be capable of identifying setup problems, making appropriate adjustments, and preventing damage to expensive stamping dies and press components.

Key Responsibilities

1. Stamping Press Setup and Die Installation

  • Independently perform complete setups and changeovers on metal stamping presses.

  • Read and interpret production travelers, routing reports, setup sheets, blueprints, and control plans.

  • Select, inspect, and install the correct stamping dies and tooling.

  • Install and align upper and lower die shoes.

  • Inspect tooling for damage, excessive wear, alignment issues, and missing components.

  • Properly position and secure dies using locating pins, clamps, and appropriate fastening methods.

  • Verify correct die alignment, and tooling clearances before production.

  • Safely use forklifts and other approved material-handling equipment during die changes.

2. Coil Feeding and Material Handling

  • Verify raw material type, thickness, width, and identification against production specifications.

  • Safely load and position metal coils onto coil cradles and feeding equipment.

  • Set up and adjust automatic coil feeders, straighteners, and material guides.

  • Adjust feeder height, alignment, and material pitch.

  • Ensure material feeds consistently and remains properly centered within the stamping die.

  • Set up lubrication systems and verify proper oil application.

  • Identify and correct material feeding problems, misfeeds, strip twisting, and alignment issues.

  • Work with stainless steel, carbon steel, copper, and other production materials.

3. Press Programming and Parameter Adjustment

  • Set up and adjust hydraulic and other stamping presses according to job requirements.

  • Configure press tonnage and ram positions.

  • Adjust top stop, bottom stop, and feed-start positions.

  • Set up tool and die safety parameters.

  • Configure part-ejection timing and related equipment.

  • Adjust material feed pitch to maintain part quality and minimize scrap.

  • Perform controlled test strokes and fine-tune machine settings before production.

  • Understand how press settings affect tooling life, part dimensions, and production efficiency.

4. Quality Control and Inspection

  • Produce first-piece samples and inspect them against engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and production gauges.

  • Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy, burrs, edge quality, surface defects, and other nonconformances.

  • Identify potential tooling or process issues before beginning full production.

  • Submit first-piece samples to the Quality Department for independent approval.

  • Make required adjustments based on inspection results.

  • Perform in-process inspections and monitor part quality throughout production.

  • Follow all applicable quality procedures, inspection requirements, and production documentation.

5. Troubleshooting and Process Improvement

  • Diagnose and correct common stamping press and tooling problems.

  • Troubleshoot misfeeds, incorrect material pitch, poor edge finish, excessive burrs, and part-ejection problems.

  • Identify die misalignment and tooling wear.

  • Troubleshoot air blow-off systems, mechanical kickers, sensors, and material choppers.

  • Recognize when tooling requires repair and coordinate with the Tool Room and Quality Department.

  • Recommend improvements to setup methods, production efficiency, material utilization, and tooling performance.

  • Minimize downtime, scrap, and unnecessary tooling damage.

6. Production Operation and Documentation

  • Operate stamping presses safely and efficiently after receiving first-piece approval.

  • Monitor machine performance and maintain consistent production output.

  • Complete production records, setup sheets, and required documentation.

  • Record important setup adjustments for future production runs.

  • Properly identify, protect, and store dies and tooling after production.

  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, Quality, Maintenance, and Tool Room personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating and setting up metal stamping presses preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform complete die changes and press setups with limited supervision.

  • Experience with hydraulic or mechanical stamping presses.

  • Experience setting up coil feeders, straighteners, and related equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, production instructions, and setup documentation.

  • Experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Understanding of stamping dies, punches, strippers, die shoes, and related tooling components.

  • Ability to work independently and follow established safety and quality procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of metal stamping setup experience.

  • Experience with compound dies and progressive dies.

  • Experience with precision metal stamping and tight-tolerance components.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic press controls, PLC interfaces, and programmable press parameters.

  • Experience with automatic coil feeders and straightening equipment.

  • Experience working with stainless steel, carbon steel, or copper.

  • Ability to identify tooling problems and assist with troubleshooting.

  • Experience operating forklifts or other industrial material-handling equipment.

  • Experience improving setup times, reducing scrap, and increasing production efficiency.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform hands-on manufacturing work throughout the shift.

  • Ability to lift and handle tooling, materials, and equipment within established safety limits, using mechanical assistance when required.

  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, metal coils, sharp edges, and industrial equipment.

  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation and Career Opportunity

Hourly Pay: $20.00–$30.00, based on demonstrated experience and setup capabilities.

This position offers the opportunity to work with specialized precision metal stamping equipment, develop advanced technical skills, and contribute to the continued growth of an established manufacturing company.

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in producing quality parts, protecting tooling, and keeping equipment operating efficiently.

Applicants should specifically describe:
