Madison Wood Preservers in Madison, VA is seeking an experienced Machinist / Fabricator to join our team. This role focuses on manual machining, welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair work, working alongside our current machinist to expand knowledge of equipment and processes.

The position requires prior machining, fabrication, and welding experience, with the ability to read blueprints and measure precisely.

Qualifications

• Prior machining, fabrication, welding, or related experience required.
• Experience operating manual lathes, mills, or similar machine shop equipment preferred.
• Welding and fabrication experience required.
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers and precision measuring tools.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and follow directions.
• Commitment to safety and maintaining a clean work area.
• Regular attendance and reliability are required.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual lathes, mills and other machine shop equipment.
• Perform machining with precise measurements and tolerances.
• Read blueprints, drawings, measurements and specs.
• Perform welding and metal fabrication.
• Fabricate and repair components for plant equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and select repair methods.
• Assist with maintenance of equipment as needed.
• Maintain a safe, organized work area.
• Learn Madison Wood's equipment and processes.
