Job summary

City of Harlingen Waterworks System is seeking a skilled wastewater collection craftsman in Harlingen, Texas. The role involves operating backhoes, boom trucks, and other equipment to support maintenance and construction of the wastewater system.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, 5+ years of equipment operation experience, and a valid Texas Driver’s License. CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsements is preferred and must be obtained within six months of hire.

• At least 5 years’ experience operating assigned equipment.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
• CDL Class B with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsements preferred; must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate a backhoe, boom truck, front-end loader and other equipment used to excavate trenches and install/repair lines.
• Open trenches for installation of lines, services and hydrants; place pipe fittings and backfill.
• Assist in connecting and repairing lines and backfilling trenches after repairs.
• Assist in loading/unloading pipes at work sites.
• Assist Maintenance Technician when not operating equipment.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Perform related tasks as assigned.
