Job summary

Qualifications

• Previous barista experience with commercial espresso equipment.

Responsibilities

# Experienced Barista / Café — . Downtown Newark, NJ | Full-time and part-time | On-site. . Pay: $18-$20 per hour, depending on experienceHours: Full-time approximately 35-40 hours; part-time approximately 15-25 hours weeklySchedule: Scheduled shifts within café operating hours of 6:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Weekend availability required.LaTasse Café specializes in coffee, pastries, sandwiches, fresh juices, and smoothies. We are seeking experienced, dependable Baristas who take pride in quality beverages, friendly service, and a clean workspace.Reporting to the Café Manager, you will prepare beverages, bake and serve ready-to-bake pastries, fulfill online orders, and support daily café operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso, cappuccino, latte, brewed coffee, tea, and other beverages according to café recipes.
• Steam milk consistently and follow procedures for dairy and alternative milk orders.
• Prepare fresh juices and smoothies following training.
• Bake and finish ready-to-bake pastries according to instructions, monitor oven times and temperatures, and display and serve pastries neatly. Training will be provided.
• Greet customers, explain menu items, take accurate orders, and process payments.
• Assist with basic sandwich and food preparation.
• Prepare, package, and label online, pickup, and delivery orders accurately and on time.
• Follow food safety and allergen procedures; refer allergy concerns to the manager before preparing an order.
• Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, counters, and service areas.
• Complete assigned cleaning duties, restock supplies, and follow opening, closing, and shift handover checklists.
• Report shortages, equipment problems, and customer concerns promptly.

Requirements

• Previous barista experience using commercial espresso equipment.
• Ability to prepare espresso-based drinks and steam milk consistently.
• A current food handler certificate is required before your first shift.
• Ability to follow pastry baking instructions and safely operate café ovens after training.
• Strong customer service, communication, and order accuracy.
• Ability to follow recipes and maintain quality during busy periods.
• Willingness to assist with food preparation, cleaning, and restocking.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a dependable commute to Downtown Newark.
• Availability for agreed shifts, including weekends.
• Experience with Clover, Odoo, or online ordering platforms is preferred.
