Garlock is seeking an Expansion Joint Builder 2 to join our manufacturing team. This hands-on role focuses on crafting specialized expansion joints, following build sheets and procedures, while working with engineers and production control to meet schedules and quality standards.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in manufacturing or related hands-on fields. Welding is a plus, with a Monday–Friday, 2pm–10pm schedule and starting pay of $24.37/hour,

What You’ll Do

• Build a variety of expansion joints using hand tools, power tools, build sheets, procedures, and work instructions.
• Cut, trim, prepare, layer, cord, press, wrap, and finish materials in the correct sequence.
• Use hoists, forms, molds, clamshell presses, and related equipment to support production.
• Apply solvent, cement, reinforcing wire, soldering, welding, and other fabrication steps as required.
• Inspect work, prepare joints for curing, and help ensure finished products meet quality expectations.
• Work closely with Production Control, engineers, and other builders to support schedules, priorities, material needs, tooling, and process improvements.
• Record production information, enter requests electronically, report near misses, and communicate important updates to the team.
• Operate a fork truck to assist with material handling and keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in manufacturing, production, maintenance, fabrication, or a similar hands‑on environment preferred.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow build instructions accurately.
• Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to assist other builders as needed.

Physical And Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to stand for much of the shift and perform repetitive lifting and pulling tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; anything over 35 pounds requires two people or a mechanical device.
• Comfort working in a manufacturing environment that may include dirt, fumes, dust, and soapstone.
• Experience or ability to work in a union manufacturing environment.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 2pm‑10pm

Starting Pay: $24.37/hour, Pay Range: $24.37-$25.91/hour, Shift Differential (2nd): $1.50/hour

Essential Functions

• Build varied style expansion joints including joints that require reinforcing wire using various hand tools and power tools.
• Working from build sheet follows build procedures and work instructions for building varied styles and sizes of expansion joints.
• Hoists form to building location; cleans marks and locates arch core on form, applies release agent to form as required.
• Using hand and power tools, builds joint applying materials in proper sequence.
• During building, trims and cuts pieces, applies solvent and cement to ply, “cords” joint, applies wire and solders as required, presses and trims flanges.
• Welds coil on joints
• Lays out, cuts, and prepares material for press built expansion joints.
• Maintains and orders raw materials using re-order point signals.
• Installation of molds into clamshell press.
• Operation and set up of clamshell press for molded joints.
• Inspects and may build over FEP liner.
• May prepare joints for curing by wrapping or in other manner.
